Most people carry a lighter with them. It may be to light up a candle or any other thing. Some people want to take the lighter in style. Therefore, it is best if the lighter is not bulky; also, if the light has a hook or something to make, carrying it even more comfortable than it is even better.
Lighters are cheap, and it is best if you do not go after expensive either. Because you will need to change from time to time, anyway, so make sure it leaves no trace on your bank account. Many people prefer to buy brands, but it's just a matter of preference. Non-brand lighters can be as good as branded ones.
Why are Lighters beneficial?
Start a fire.
Start a fire is the most apparent use of a lighter. In a survival situation, being able to start a fire can often mean the difference between life and death. The fire keeps you warm, cooks food, and boils water to kill harmful bacteria and parasites. Alone, it makes sense to have a lighter with you regularly. If you do not have a lighter, you would have to rely on things like a fire starter or a kind of primitive fire making the skill. Even if you know how to make a fire that way, a lighter makes it much more comfortable.
Seal the end of the Nylon Rope
A nylon rope (like 550 cord) can burn. To seal the end of cable 550, it suffices to hold the tip in the flame for a few seconds until it catches fire, then blow gently pinching with fingers (this will be hot) or use the bottom of the lighter to press it on the ground. The melted ends will harden as soon as it cools the 550 cord, and it will keep it from fraying and hold the inner cables in place.
Light a propane stove
This trick takes us to the outdoors/camping side of keeping a lighter around. Many hiking stoves do not have integrated igniters, so a lighter is a must. Even for larger stoves with the integrated igniter, it is useful, as they are often the first thing to do when things break.
Give a friend (or stranger)
You can always offer your lighter to someone else who needs one. If this happens in a survival situation, they will be grateful that you carried a lighter with you.
